In Syracuse NY, in 1978 I took an intensive Bible class, which changed my life forever. I found Jesus Christ on the pages of the Book, got born again - baptized in holy spirit, was totally delivered from 15 years of demonic possession, was healed of all afflictions, began to speak in tongues (have never stopped) and began to get routine revelation from the Lord; a substantial blessing that has not let up to this day..
But..
I was 20 something and was only just beginning to ‘renew my mind’,. I had not learned yet learned to ‘go and sin no more’. Sin in my life, (that committed AFTER my new birth) meant cracks in my armour. As it does for all who transgress.. So one day, emboldened by power, but ignorant of the rules of engagement, I went into battle with cracked armour and nearly lost my life.
This is the startling story - which illustrates what every young Christian needs to know.
On August 4th, 1978, after graduating the Bible class, Jesus Christ met me in the kitchen of my rental house. To keep the story short - when I realized I had been delivered from a lifetime of spiritual possession; oppression; and sickness, I was shocked. I pleaded with the Lord - WHAT was I going to do? I did not KNOW HOW to be a healthy person in body and mind. I was freaked out by the new normal.
Jesus Christ replied - ‘Join the Army’.
The very next day I visited an Army recruiter in Liverpool NY, and by my birthday, October 31st, 1978.. I was at Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, standing in my first ever military formation.
In another shortened story, the drill sergeant was screaming at a ‘recruit’- 2 bodies down from me, saying:
“TRAINEEEEE! DON’T BE AFRAID TO MAKE A MISTAKE TRAINEEE! EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES… …JESUS MADE A MISTAKE!!.”
I knew he was thinking that the cross was ‘Jesus’ mistake’, but I also knew -having only just graduated the best Bible Course ever made - that he was dead wrong. But I was afraid to set him straight.. Hahaha.. And become his next victim..
When they released us, I returned to the barracks, opened my locker, took out my Bible, and was taken for the first time - in what has been a hundred thousand such episodes.. straight to the verse that the Lord wished to say to me:
‘Be not afraid of their faces:
for I am with thee to deliver thee,
saith the LORD.’ Jeremiah 1:8
But it didn’t stop there, he had me read verses 9 and 17 also. I had been commissioned in His Army, and was given a directive, that if I disobeyed, I’d be reproved by heaven itself.
BTW, where I had never been athletic in my whole life, (I did not do extracurricular sports in High School.. I was in theater instead).. I graduated Army Basic FIRST FEMALE in physical fitness! That was already revolutionary for someone who’d been sick for 15 years!
From Basic, in March of 1979, I went to ‘AIT’ (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Sam Houston Texas in San Antonio, for Combat Medical Training. I was the honor graduate of 355 medical students, including Michael Patton - the grandson of the general.
I want to tell you, life BEGAN after the Bible class, the baptism in the holy spirit, and meeting Jesus Christ the way in 21 years of so called “church Christianity’, I never had.1
I returned to Syracuse after all of my training, as a REFRAD (Return from Active Duty) My superiors were disappointed that I had only enlisted as a Reservist. They wanted to send me for OCS - Officer Candidate School.
You see, in those days, I had no family, no parental guidance, no familial connections, and consequently, no counselors.. Which is why I was still making havoc of my life in many ways. I was lonely, (for family), and was newly whole. Being healthy was a brand new experience.. that I was feeling my way to adjust to. It took me many years to realize I had only HALF obeyed Jesus when he told me to join the Army, I joined ‘The Reserves’, and returned to the spiritually dark city of Syracuse, my home at the time.
When I returned, I had to look for a new place to live. So I answered an ad in the Syracuse Post standard, 3 girls, Vivian, Dawn, and Ruth - were looking for a 4th roommate, to rent a house in Syracuse - at 852 Westmoreland Avenue. They specified in the ad - must love plants and animals.. That was me. In fact, I had 2 Australian Shepherds that I[‘d left with friends when I went to train in the Army - Campbell and MacKenzie.. The girls interviewed me and invited me to join them.
I moved in with them in the summer of 1979, left my things, and went away for my requisite 2 week Army Reserve summer camp. As a medic, and new member of a medical unit in Liverpool NY, I went with my unit up to Alexandria Bay, and drilled by setting up field hospitals, (MUST Units). We co-trained with a helicopter evacuation unit out of Bangor Maine, which was wonderful! Any of us medics who wanted to fly with the chopper pilots - who were getting their yearly training in - could do so.
I flew over the 1000 Islands up there, while they did whirleys and dips, and some of my comrades - one black fellow in particular - were turning all shades of green and white. I loved it. Somehow flying has always felt to me, like home away from home.
Then I went home to Westmoreland avenue.
My new roommates sat me down in the living room to share their unusual news..
To be continued..
I have continued to conduct that same class since then. The same teacher fro 1968 presents the class, and the same results in the graduates.. born again, baptized in the holy spirit, healed of diseases, delivered from demons, is the result. For information on this class that will be conducted this May 2025, email me at: thetyrannyofmasks@proton.me.
I’m a 22 year active Army veteran myself and instead of being a medic, I was a military policeman. We share many of the same spiritual happenings and lack of family…looking forward to the rest of your story. Thank you✝️🙏🇺🇸🫡
Thanks. Edge of my seat waiting to read more!
