In the last few years have you thought to yourself, it’s time to return to the land, and raise my own food? Or start a community or live within one, where people have gone back to the old ways? You know, raising chickens, radishes, a cabbage patch.. and canning your tomatoes in the Fall?.. Have you wondered how to get started?
Well, I was just looking at an old friend of mine online, and stumbled across a school he is currently teaching in..
About 15 years ago I learned about a film called ‘Back to Eden’. So, I watched it and was so impressed I picked up the phone and called the farmer. Paul Gautschi was out on his tractor when I called, but the holy spirit told him, ‘go check your messages’. There was only one .. mine. Within 10 minutes of having called the busy farmer and leaving a message, he called me back.
That started a long term friendship that - I for one - benefited greatly from. I learned volumes from Paul about the soil, the sun, the reason to not grow in a Greenhouse (if you can help it), how to glean the absolute best from your gardens, and so much more.
Paul’s farm is in northern Washington State, Sequim., on a penninsula. His story is fascinating. The farmer moved his family up there from California about 40 years ago, right on time for a drought! He paced his land and prayed, and asked God to show him what to do.
Don’t you just love how heaven answers when we ask questions? That simple prayer launched a lifetime of Paul’s learning about how to farm ‘GODS way’. He wound up needing NO fertilizer, NO pesticides, rare crop rotating, and 90% less water irrigation! Then he did what sons of God so.. Paul made it his business to teach his farming system to others. It’s even being applied in desert countries in the Middle East!
Finally his farm was producing so much wonderful food, the quantity growing in leaps and bounds each year, that word got out, and 2 young film makers came and made the place famous in what is a timeless classic film ‘Back to Eden’. See it HERE.
For many years Paul’s farm drew tourists, students, farmers, and curiosity seekers from all over the world. People would come to eat his veggies and fruits (he doesn’t sell it, but he’d give it away), and even claimed it healed them of disease!
Well, I’ve not talked to him since last year, so tonight something drew me to look online to his web site, see what he was up to lately. (Paul has no computer and no cell phone, so I don’t call when I think he’s spending family quiet time at home with his wife, Carol, who is a world traveling Midwife). I found that he has finally closed his farm to visitors, and has resigned himself to teaching his farming system in what appears to be a wonderful school of ‘Traditional Skills’.
How would you like to learn to raise organic produce that will increase in volume year by year, meanwhile your work decreases each year? .. (as Paul would say - As God designed it for us to grow old gracefully and still feed ourselves!) Or learn to raise bees.. or chickens.. or beef.. or build.. or can your produce.. or cook healthy meals?
Well check out this school of Traditional Skills HERE.
BTW< if you watch the film ‘Back to Eden’, Paul Gautschi not only teaches about the farming system he learned from God, he teaches how to get answers from heaven yourself.! And, if you wind up taking Pauls’ farming class, and if you ever talk to him, please tell him I sent you!
Godspeed,
Victoria
I'm stuck in a rut here. I used to have a little camp up North, (after having huge vegetable gardens in the Adirondacks on my parents property, which was sold). My husband and I loved to garden. Since he died, and I don't drive or have the car anymore, I'm stuck in Montreal. Mind you, I love my place, but I feel my life is getting narrower by the month. I will have to sell my little place spring comes. God has different plans for us, sometimes they're just not very grandiose or liberating.
Thank you Victoria. I will take time to watch later tonight.
